Old town of Tossa

Go back

In Tossa de Mar you’ll find the only example of a medieval fortified town that exists on the Catalan coast.

Located 40 km from Hostalric, Tossa is a veritable outdoor museum. Its Vila Vella (Old Town) is one of the most impressive elements of medieval heritage preserved today and is listed as a national historic-artistic monument. Preserved almost in its entirety, the walled perimeter was built between the 12th and 14th century to defend the town from pirate raids. Three large cylindrical towers protrude from the wall. From the top you have a wonderful view of the bay of this special town on the Catalan coast.
