Hostalric played a key role in the Peninsular War, facilitating the entry of food during the siege of Girona and obstructing the passage of enemy troops. This explains why the French wanted to take the town.
Surrounded by gently sloping mountains and with magnificent views over the Tordera Valley and Montseny and Montnegre national parks, you will enjoy the perfect setting for excursions on foot or by bike, following signposted routes such as the Tourdera, which connects the Montseny massif with the Costa Brava, or one of the Great Water Trails in the La Selva region.
Listed as a Cultural Asset of National Interest (1963), the town of Hostalric is one of the major monumental sites of medieval Catalonia and is presided over by an imposing 18th century military fortress.
The village is famous for its cold meats and hand-crafted sweets. In the butcher’s shops, you will find traditionally-made cold meats following family traditions that go back years, and in the patisseries and bakeries you will find traditional hand-crafted sweets and desserts.
The Domus Can Llensa, tourist and cultural promotion center of Hostalric is located in Can Llensa. It is the headquarters of the Tourist Information Office, part of the Network of Tourism Offices of Catalonia promoted by the Directorate General of Tourism of Catalonia.
