Discover the history of Hostalric Castle with this guided tour led by our accredited local guides and delve into one of the most important fortresses in Catalonia.
During a tour of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, you will learn how the medieval castle of the Viscounts of Cabrera evolved to become a modern fortification adapted to new military techniques. The guides will explain how and why it was transformed, what defensive systems were used and what historical events have marked its evolution.
During the visit, you can discover emblematic spaces of the Hostalric fortress such as the guardhouse, the bastions, the powder magazine or the bomb-proof gallery, authentic witnesses of its military function and the key role it played in the history of Catalonia. From some points of the route, you can also enjoy magnificent views of the Montseny massif, the Montsoriu Castle and the natural environment of the Selva plain.
Note: due to improvement and restoration works in the knight’s quarters and the parade ground, these spaces will remain temporarily closed to the public. The route of the guided tour of Hostalric Castle has been adapted to offer an equally complete experience, which allows you to discover the historical, architectural and landscape essence of this heritage site, a Cultural Asset of National Interest.
