Santa Barbara Bastion

Santa Bàrbara is the smallest of the fortified buildings of the fortress and the only one that can be properly considered a bastion in a theoretical and traditional sense. Its plan is pentagonal, and its sharpest angle points outwards. Typically, a watchtower would be located at this extremity.

Bastions usually bore the names of saints. Santa Bàrbara (Saint Barbara) is the patron saint of artillery.
