This is the first powder magazine the fortress had, and it was built after the War of the Spanish Succession ended, between 1713 and 1715.
The powder magazine is the building designated for storing gunpowder and other explosive materials. It has the capacity to hold up to 25,000 kilograms of gunpowder, making it the most fortified building in the entire castle, as an explosion of the magazine could be catastrophic for the fortress’s integrity. Its appearance is typical for this kind of facility, characterized by traditional buttresses, small vents in the building’s walls, and its surrounding wall.
Currently, it retains the same structure, and an audiovisual presentation has been installed to explain its use and functions.
