VISITS

Discover Hostalric

The Hostalric Tourist Office offers you different ways to explore the town’s history and the legends hidden in its stones.

Two options are available for visiting Hostalric Castle – Fortress, perched high up on a basalt rock. If you opt for a guided visit, our town guides will show you its most important features and functions, and you’ll hear plenty of surprising stories about the monument as well. If you prefer to visit it unaccompanied, you can visit the most important parts of the fortress at your own pace as you enjoy the amazing views. In both cases, the audio-visual displays and interactive scale model will help you interpret this castle which overlooks the town of Hostalric from the hilltop.

We also suggest a couple of alternatives for making the most of a visit to Hostalric’s mediaeval quarter and strolling along its streets. You can go on a guided tour and discover the key historical facts about the mediaeval town and the viscounty of Cabrera as you stroll along the footpath of the town walls or climb up the Friars Tower. However, if you want to feel like the masters of the town, the Tourist Office offers you the chance to visit Hostalric with the key of the town, putting you centre stage as you follow the route at your own pace. Whatever option you choose, you’ll enjoy some amazing panoramic vistas and the impressive 600-metre-long mediaeval wall that hugs the ancient Camí Ral (Royal Way).

Whether you’ve only got time for a flying visit or want to take your time to explore all the hidden corners of this charming town, we’ve got the perfect option for you. Below you’ll find different ways to visit Hostalric; whether alone, with your partner or with all the family, we’ve got a plan to suit your pace…

You can come and go as you please, picking and choosing the paths and streets that interest you. You can follow your nose or use the signposted routes that take you around the town itself and the surrounding area. Or you can enlist the help of one of our tour guides, who’ll accompany you and help you discover the curiosities and details of the castle and mediaeval quarter.

You can complete a full visit, including all the main attractions in the municipality, in which case you’re likely to want to stop for a breather at one of the town’s bars and restaurants. Or you can opt for a whistle-stop tour, taking in places such as the Friars Tower where you can enjoy a panoramic vista of the entire town.

Whatever option you prefer, come and visit Hostalric!
