The Domus Sent Soví Gastronomy Centre (home of the Sent Soví, the oldest Catalan cookbook, dating from the 14th century and containing more than 200 recipes) is a project led by Hostalric Town Council with the goal of raising the tourism profile of the town on the basis of highlighting its gastronomy and local products. In this respect, the Domus Sent Soví Gastronomy Centre is the first centre in Catalonia devoted to the promotion, innovation, experimentation and knowledge of Catalan Gastronomic Heritage through its finest products.
The facility contains several different spaces that make it eminently suitable for promoting products and gastronomy: an exhibition area, a shop specialising in local products, workshop rooms, an auditorium and a restaurant.
The link between gastronomy and Hostalric is no coincidence, since the town’s outstanding location right next to the Via Augusta, one of the most ancient roads in Europe, and serving as a vantage point of the Montseny Massif, made it a place of shelter and rest for travellers. Over the centuries, Hostalric has welcomed different cultures, civilisations, smells and tastes, both local and more far-flung, and has given shelter and served hot meals to hundreds of generations of travellers. In its very name, Hostalric carries the memory of a gastronomic and restaurant tradition that stretches back over a thousand years; it is indeed a Rich Hostel.
